A Taste of Summer to come

I made a back yard bonfire by myself because it was 62 and sunny this afternoon. We had a little taste of summer weather. I am excited for the outside-camping, summer to begin.

I sipped on a glass of red wine while our sweet potatoes were cooking in tin foil on the hot coals. I had to start up the fire early since the potatoes take about an hour or more to cook.

Zoey had scattered branches from our pile for the fire all over the yard. While the potatoes cooked, I gathered up all the branches and threw them on the fire. We had the best dinner with those sweet potatoes cooked over the fire. I love simple cooking the best!
While I was outside with the fire, Logan was busy making a cake. He found a cake recipe on line, made some strawberry jam and topped the cake with fresh vanilla whipping cream. One of the best desserts I've had in a long, long time! It was delicious and we ate the entire cake!
We started the weekend on Friday night at the MOA, waiting for Celina to try on and pick out the perfect prom dress. She finally found one that she liked. it's a long black dress with some gold jewels around the neckline. Super cute and I'm hoping she will be wanting to wear it again next year too.
While at the MOA, Steve and I enjoyed happy hour at a new Mexican restaurant. They have happy hour specials in the bar. I decided on the pork taco's. Super delicious and Steve ordered the pork sliders with fries. We will be back for more Mexican food! It was that good!

Saturday morning we all got up early. We had plans to drive to Pipestone and then go to Walnut Grove. A 3.5 hour drive there and another 3.5 hour drive home didn't sound too fun. We decided on an explore Saturday closer to home. We stopped at three different places. One at donated land along the Cannon River.

It's a favorite stop for Steve when he's out on a motorcycle ride. It was quiet and we had the park to ourselves.

From the river we drove down south to Nerstrand Big Woods. We purchased a state park sticker and took the trial to the waterfall.

Our last stop was another small land area set aside for state land. We took the path down into a gorge and walked a way back into the woods towards the Cannon falls river.
