Fall Colors, Road trip to Wisconsin!

Steve and I both had the day off. We decided last minute to take a road trip along the Mississippi River to look at the fall colors.  We just didn't plan like we always do. There was zero snacks and it was almost lunch time!

The colors were nice in some places, other areas it was pretty much past peak! It was still a pretty drive. We went through Red Wing to Maiden Rock Wisconsin, Lake Pepin area.
I just tried to snap a few photos in the car, through the dirty windshield.
I actually got out of the car, walked back and took this photo. The road wasn't very traveled, so no worries about cars coming.

We've passed this rustic road many times and always wanted to drive down it. So today was the day to check it out.
You would think on a Tuesday, middle of the day on a rustic road, you would hardly see anyone at all. Nope, not the case. We passed two walkers, a few cars pulled over on the side of the road and a few people I think mushroom hunting or digging up something in the woods?
I didn't take enough photos of this road, but it was a very cool drive. lime stone cliffs, winding narrow dirt road that dropped off to a steep valley below. Kind of scary drive if another car had to pass. We also drove thought the stream in a few places that crossed the road. Saw a bunch of tiny hand sized trout hanging out as we drove through.
After that rustic road adventure, we stopped in Maiden Rock Wisconsin for a bottle of wine. We sat outside in the 60+ sunny, but windy weather. On the way back to the car, I grabbed two apples off the trees. Unfortunately, the red apple I grabbed had a big bug hole in it. The yellow apple was small but sooo good. I have no idea of what variety it was?

Before heading for home in Wisconsin, we stopped at a park along the river/Lake Pepin. We had to follow a trail down a semi steep wooded hill side. I of course didn't wear great shoes! Just my smooth bottom sandals. So not great for climbing down a hill! We also crossed two rail road tracks to get to the river/lake Pepin.
We had one beer, sat and soaked up the sun. Steve joking said imagine if a train comes and stops on the tracks. Well, no sooner then he said that, we heard a fast moving train coming. So we sat and watched it zip by. It was one of those miles and miles long trains. All of a sudden we realize the train is slowing down and then it stopped across the tracks, blocking us from getting back up to the car!
So much for our one beer and relaxing by the lake!!
Now I know why there wasn't an official path to the lake! So we were faced with a few options! 1. Wait till the train moves. Which we have no idea of how long that will be. 2. Walk to the end, could be miles? No idea how long the train is? 3. cross over the train (under, between or over). So thankfully, the car that stopped in front of us was flat, nothing on it! All the other rail cars were normal. So not knowing if the train would start moving, we quickly climbed up the train, over to the other side and climbed down. I never moved so fast to get over that train! I was shaking!! I just kept thinking how dumb. We are going to get killed if this train starts moving. I was all ready to jump if needed! We made it across! Never again will I do that!

After our Train crossing, we stopped at the bakery in Red Wing. I always hear about them making political cookies every election and keeping track of sales. Well, we had to purchase two Biden cookies! No one wants DUMP to win!! They were delicious cookies! Expensive at $4 each but for a good cause! I was happy to hear other people in the bakery with us, also purchased Biden cookies!
I was also glad to see Wisconsin had lot of Biden signs! We hardly saw any Dump! Super surprising but in a good way!
