21 days, that's what we had, of our extend vacation. It still doesn't feel long enough. Today, was the first day back to work in over 25 days for me. It sure was fun and a bit weird at times. I'll start from the beginning and maybe extend my posts to a few days since there is so much to cover! It's always easier to start at the end...
Our last week, from Sunday -Sunday we spent at Sauk Lake. We arrived the day before my birthday on the 30th. Set up our huge tent on the beach.
You can't see our tent but its to the left of our blue screen tent, minus the screen because we didn't need it. We didn't need the shade either but it was put up anyway.
Our beach was seeing lots of erosion due to all the high water, from the spring/summer rain. We decided to fix the beach the day after my birthday on Tuesday. We found out from the neighbor you need permit to do any shore line work. We quickly got a hold of the city, had the guy who issues permits come out by 10pm that day. He emailed the permit and we were set to start working. I had lined up boulders to be delivered. Those got dropped off Monday instead of Tuesday morning. We just had to pick up the bobcat. Steve thought I got too many boulders. It was a big pile and I was a bit worried he was right but I didn't want to admit it. Turns out, we could have used a few more.
Steve had far too much fun running up and down the hill with the bobcat and placing all the boulders on the shore line. I got the tough job of placing every single boulder. Some Just got left where they fell due to the size. Smaller ones, I was able to pick up and place on top of the pile.
We had priced out the job to be done by a landscaper. Maybe it was a good thing the guy was too busy to get to our shoreline this year. We saved a ton of money doing it ourselves, had fun doing it and it turned out better then we had even imagined! The city permit guy was the one suggesting we make a beach and just turn in the boulders. We had planned on making steps and he was like, you don't want to do that! It will just get crushed by ice every winter. Glad we took his advice! Love the beach area!
We had to roll the larger boulders in place!
Some turtle eggs were uncovered while Steve was running over the beach on the bobcat. I was able to save all but two eggs that were crushed. I just moved their location and dug a hole, recovering with sand.
It took us two days working 4 hours each day to finish our beach!
We placed the last of the super large boulders and made a wall around our firepit area.
The new fire pit went in last. Turned out perfect!
That was a lot of work! It looks really good!
